Access Card
Do you need a carer or support worker to attend community activities or events?
If the answer is Yes, then the Access Card may be the key you’ve been looking for.
The Access Card has been developed to:
- Promote financial equity of access when attending events and activities for people in the community, who require disability carer support to participate
- Encourage inclusive business policies and practises in recreational venues throughout the region
- Promote community inclusion for people requiring carer support
Am I Eligible? To be eligible for the Access Card you must be a person with a disability, who because of the disability can not access community events without the support of a carer. What is the Access Card? The Access Card will assist in alleviating the financial burden on the person with the disability. The Access Card will allow the access, for persons with a disability, to participating facilities, for community events, without having the financial responsibility of the entry fee for their carer. How Do I Apply? If you believe that you would be eligible for the Access Card contact your primary service provider and inquire about an application form and assessment. If you do not have a primary service provider contact the George Street Neighbourhood Centre for information on how to obtain an application form and access to assessment. Arrange an interview with an assessor of your choice. All completed application forms will need approval by the Access Card Committee. How Does it Work? The holder of the Access Card will be asked to present it upon payment at participating community venues or facilities. On presentation of the card, the holder will pay their usual entry fee. The Access Card will allow admission for the carer at no charge. The concession rate will apply if already in place. What is the Cost? The $11.00 (GST included) cost of the Access Card will cover materials needed to produce the card and is to be paid on receipt of the card. The payment of the card is responsibility of the cardholder. The Access Card will be due for renewal every three years. |
Where Can I Use It?Businesses participating in the Access Card will display a logo at their point of sale. A list of participating venues and businesses will be forwarded to all cardholders and available from the George Street Neighbourhood Centre. The data will be updated on a regular basis to keep all cardholders well informed. Only cardholders in possession of a valid Access Card are entitled to these admission arrangements and must be present at ticket purchase and time of admission. Lost or Damaged Access CardsIn the event of the Access Card being lost or damaged it is required that this be reported to George Street Neighbourhood Centre. The card replacement cost is the responsibility of the cardholder. Difficulties with Access CardAny difficulties in the administration of the Access Card are to be reported to the venue’s manager who will initiate discussions with the scheme’s representative through the George Street Neighbourhood Centre. Misuse of the Access Card will result in cancellation of the card with the cardholder being ineligible for a future card.
